Plagiarism Policy

SATUKATA: Jurnal Sains, Teknik, dan Studi Kemasyarakatan (Journal of Science, Engineering, and Society) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and to ensuring that all research published in the journal is original and free from plagiarism. The journal follows a strict Plagiarism Policy to uphold these principles and protect the quality of scholarly work.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the act of using someone else's work, ideas, or intellectual property without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Direct Plagiarism: Copying text, data, or images directly from another source without proper citation.

  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing one's own previously published work or substantial portions of it without citation or permission.

  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Mixing the author's own work with copied portions of others' work without proper acknowledgment.

  • Accidental Plagiarism: Failing to cite sources properly or paraphrasing without crediting the original author due to negligence or lack of knowledge.

2. Prevention and Detection

  • Plagiarism Screening: All submitted manuscripts undergo a plagiarism check using reliable plagiarism detection tools (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate). This ensures that the work is original and that proper citations are given for any borrowed content.

  • Author Responsibility: Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work is free from plagiarism. They must properly cite all sources and reference all data, ideas, and text that are not their own. Authors must also provide permission to use any copyrighted materials, such as images or figures, within their manuscripts.

3. Consequences of Plagiarism

  • Rejection of Manuscripts: If plagiarism is detected in a submitted manuscript, it will be rejected immediately. Authors will be informed of the specific instances of plagiarism and will be given the opportunity to correct the issues for resubmission.

  • Publication Retraction: If plagiarism is discovered in a published article, the journal will issue a formal retraction, and the article will be removed from the journal’s website. A notice of retraction will be published to explain the reason for the retraction.

  • Reporting to Authorities: In cases of severe or repeated plagiarism, the journal reserves the right to report the issue to the author’s institution, relevant academic bodies, or funding agencies.

4. Citations and Referencing

  • Proper Citation: All sources, including direct quotations, paraphrased ideas, and images, must be properly cited in accordance with the journal’s citation style (Vancouver Style).

  • Originality in Writing: Authors are expected to write their manuscript in their own words, citing sources where necessary. Copying and pasting text from other works is strictly prohibited unless properly cited and referenced.

5. Handling Allegations of Plagiarism

  • Investigation Process: If a plagiarism allegation is made, the editorial team will conduct a thorough investigation. The manuscript in question will be reviewed, and the author will be asked to provide an explanation. If necessary, the author may be asked to revise the manuscript to address any issues.

  • Appeals: Authors who disagree with the findings of plagiarism in their work can submit an appeal to the editorial board, who will review the case impartially.

6. Commitment to Ethical Publishing

SATUKATA is committed to maintaining the integrity and ethical standards of scholarly publishing. We expect all authors, reviewers, and editors to adhere to the highest standards of originality and honesty in their academic work. By maintaining a strict plagiarism policy, SATUKATA helps to ensure the credibility and reputation of the journal and its contributors.

Through the enforcement of this Plagiarism Policy, SATUKATA strives to protect the intellectual property rights of all researchers and to promote a culture of responsible and ethical academic publishing.
