Data and Reproducibility

SATUKATA: Jurnal Sains, Teknik, dan Studi Kemasyarakatan (Journal of Science, Engineering, and Society) is committed to promoting transparency, integrity, and reproducibility in scientific research. In line with best practices in academic publishing, the journal has established a Data and Reproducibility Policy to ensure that research findings are verifiable, reliable, and accessible for further scientific inquiry.

1. Data Availability

  • Requirement for Data Sharing: Authors are encouraged to share the data that supports their research findings. This data should be made available in an accessible, open format and deposited in a publicly accessible repository unless there are ethical, privacy, or legal restrictions preventing such sharing.

  • Data Supporting Results: Authors must provide sufficient detail in their manuscripts about how the data was collected and analyzed. The raw data, as well as the processed data, should be available for independent verification of results.

  • Accepted Data Repositories: Authors are encouraged to deposit their data in recognized open-access repositories such as Zenodo, Figshare, or Dryad. Data may also be hosted in institutional or subject-specific repositories.

2. Reproducibility of Research

  • Reproducible Methods: Authors are required to provide detailed descriptions of their research methods and methodologies, including software, tools, or algorithms used, so that others can replicate the work. This includes:

    • A clear outline of the research design.

    • Details of data collection, sampling methods, and analytical techniques.

    • A description of any software or code used in data analysis.

  • Code Availability: If the research involves computational modeling or data analysis, authors must make the code used for analysis available in a public repository (e.g., GitHub, GitLab), with proper documentation to allow others to reproduce the analysis.

3. Ethical Considerations in Data Sharing

  • Confidentiality and Privacy: Authors must ensure that any shared data complies with ethical guidelines and privacy laws, such as protecting the anonymity of research participants and not disclosing sensitive personal information.

  • Data Usage Consent: Authors must have the appropriate consent to share data, particularly when it comes to human or animal research. Any data shared should comply with applicable consent agreements and institutional ethical approval processes.

4. Supplementary Materials

  • Supplementary Files: Authors can submit supplementary files that provide additional supporting materials such as datasets, raw data, code, videos, or other resources that complement the manuscript. These materials will be made available to readers alongside the article, enhancing the transparency and accessibility of the research.

5. Verification and Peer Review

  • Verification of Data: SATUKATA encourages reviewers to assess whether the data provided supports the conclusions drawn in the manuscript. This includes verifying that the data is of high quality, appropriately analyzed, and adequately described in the paper.

  • Independent Replication: The journal supports the notion that research findings should be reproducible by other scientists. If possible, manuscripts should include instructions on how other researchers can independently replicate the research.

6. Handling of Inaccessible Data

  • If authors are unable to provide data due to legal, ethical, or privacy reasons, they must explain the circumstances in the manuscript, and the editorial board will review the justification. Authors should make a reasonable effort to make data available, even if only to qualified researchers or under specific access conditions.

7. Commitment to Scientific Integrity

  • Transparent Reporting: SATUKATA is dedicated to ensuring that published research is transparent, reproducible, and open to scrutiny by the scientific community. This policy fosters trust and confidence in the scientific process and encourages researchers to follow ethical standards when managing and sharing their data.

  • Correcting Errors: If errors in data are discovered after publication, authors are expected to promptly issue corrections or retractions, as appropriate, to maintain the integrity of the scientific record.

By adhering to this Data and Reproducibility Policy, SATUKATA aims to foster a culture of openness and transparency in research, ensuring that published findings are not only accessible but also reproducible by the broader academic community.
