Abstract
The development of financial technology has increased the use of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services among Generation Z women with high digital consumption levels. This study aims to analyze the influence of BNPL on financial behavior by examining the role of a consumptive lifestyle and self-control as mediating and moderating variables. The study used a quantitative approach through a survey of Generation Z women who use BNPL and analyzed using SEM-PLS. The results showed that the model has strong predictive ability with an R² value of 0.795. BNPL has a positive and significant effect on financial behavior and self-control. A consumptive lifestyle also has a positive and significant effect on financial behavior, but not on self-control. Self-control has been shown to have a positive effect on financial behavior. However, self-control is unable to moderate the relationship between BNPL and a consumptive lifestyle on financial behavior. Conversely, self-control is able to mediate the effect of BNPL on financial behavior, but not the effect of a consumptive lifestyle. These findings indicate that BNPL and a consumer lifestyle are key factors influencing the financial behavior of Generation Z women, while self-control is a more effective mediator than a moderator. This research contributes to the development of behavioral finance literature and provides insights for BNPL providers, regulators, and users in encouraging wiser financial management.
