Abstract
This article examines the culture of corruption from a social perspective, highlighting its historical roots, social values and practices that are deeply entrenched in society. Corruption is understood not merely as a breach of the law, but as a social phenomenon shaped by a long historical process, power relations and the normalisation of values in everyday life. This study shows that the legacy of a patrimonial system, colonial influence, a culture of patronage, nepotism, and tolerance of the abuse of power are the main factors perpetuating corruption in society. Furthermore, corrupt practices also manifest in various aspects of social life, such as the bureaucracy, public services, education, and inter-group relations. Therefore, efforts to eradicate corruption must be undertaken comprehensively through anti-corruption education, institutional reform, enhanced transparency, and a shift in social values so that a culture of corruption can be replaced by a culture of integrity.
