Abstract
This study aims to identify the potential and destination readiness of five tourism villages in North Badung—Pelaga, Belok, Pangsan, Petang, and Carangsari, for the development of wellness tourism, analyze the internal and external factors influencing its development, and formulate a wellness tourism development model that supports sustainable tourism and local economic strengthening. The study employed a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach using document analysis, observation, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Informants included village officials, tourism awareness groups, community leaders, tourism business actors, and tourists. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, SWOT, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM), followed by FGD validation. The findings indicate that the five villages possess strong natural, agricultural, cultural, and community-based resources that can support wellness experiences. However, destination readiness remains constrained by human resource capacity, infrastructure, accessibility, institutional coordination, and promotion. The study identifies the need to differentiate wellness products according to the characteristics of each village, strengthen human resources and institutions, develop inter-village collaboration, integrate tourism routes, increase community participation, and expand digital market access. The resulting model positions local natural and cultural potential as the foundation, followed by 4A destination readiness, capacity strengthening, product differentiation, inter-village collaboration, wellness journey development, digital marketing, community participation, and local economic value creation toward sustainable tourism.
